When and where can I apply?
: Applications are accepted from May 1st through September 30th. of each year through the KDSF website. All applications must be submitted online. No paper copies of applications, supporting documents, or letters of recommendation will be accepted.
When should I start preparing for your scholarship application process if I will be returning to school for this coming Fall semester?
: Information for the KDSF scholarship will be available online beginning April 1st. All applications may be submitted between September 1st and September 30th.
Can I apply if I attend a foreign school or a foreign campus of a U.S. school?
: Foreign school enrollments are permitted for Category E only. No foreign school enrollments will be accepted for any other Category.
Can I submit my scholarship application and supporting documentation in advance?
: No, all applications and supporting documentation must be submitted via the KDSF website between May 1st and September 30th.
I’m a recipient of last year. Can I apply for this year again?
: Yes, You may apply it again.
What should be the topic of my personal essay? : Your personal essay should be no more than 800 words, and it should be used to demonstrate why you are applying for this scholarship, your current financial situation, and your future plans.
Do I need to submit letters of recommendation?
: Letters of recommendation are required for Category E only. For members of Category E, you will need to upload a letter of recommendation with your online application from a missionary stationed overseas.
I understand recommendation letters are not required – but can I still submit them for your consideration?
: We do not ask and accept any recommendation letter except category E.
I am currently a senior at my undergraduate college and will be a graduate student next academic year. When I am registering myself on the application, would I select my school grade as “Undergraduate” or “Graduate School?”
: You can select your current grade that is undergraduate. But if you are selected as a winner, You will be requested to submit a letter of acceptance receive from graduate school for the purpose of the disbursement.
Can I amend or revise my application after it has already been submitted?
: All applications may be amended or revised after submission until the deadline. You may access your application through your account and amend as often as you want.
Can I submit my application and Essay in Korean? 한글로 신청서와 에세이를 작성해도 되나요? : We accept only English application and Essay. The required document like ‘the letter of introduction’ can be written in a foreign language. But The document written foreign language except Korean must also submit an English version which certified by the organization had issued.아니요, 신청서와 에세이는 영어로 작성해야 합니다.
Should official transcripts be sent directly from my school?
: You do not need to send your transcript by mail. First, you get it from your school and then upload it Official transcripts should be upload through the website with your application and other supporting documentation. The transcript must include your name, school name, course name, GPA.
Which transcripts should incoming freshmen provide?
: Incoming freshmen need to provide transcripts from the high school that they attended in the semester immediately preceding the time of application. All transcripts must be uploaded online with the application. If you are already freshmen in college, provide transcripts from the college.
Can I upload the scanned copy of my official transcript? : Yes, We prefer original but accept its copy as well. The transcript must include your name, school name, course name, GPA.
What should be included in my activities?
: It should include any church activities, community service, sports activities, etc. Please include names of the organizations, time periods, and what you did during your service.
I’ve done many volunteer/non-profit/outreach/mission works. There are only 4 sections on the application. May I attach a separate document of a list?
: We recognize 4 sections are sufficient to show your great activities.
Whose financial income statement and Financial circumstances info. do I need to provide?
: You will need to provide the financial income statement and Financial Info. for the person mainly responsible for paying tuition and major living expenses.
What if I don’t have any financial income statements because I am an international student?
: You will need to submit income statements for the person responsible for paying your tuition (i.e. your parents in Korea, We accept the documents issued by Korean Government.)
For “financial circumstances” am I writing my current financial circumstances or my expected expenses while I enroll in school in US? : Current status information is needed.
Should I include my own earnings from work-study for the financial statement? : Yes, all work-study earnings should be included.
Who should I choose for my financial reference? : Your financial reference should be someone outside of your immediate family who is familiar with your current financial situation.
My Father lives in Korea and is fully responsible for my tuition fee. Can I upload his income statement issued by Korea?
: Yes, We accept the income statement issued by the foreign government.
Financial Reference란에 Direct Family 외 친척은 가능한가요? : Direct Family 외에 어떤 친척분도 가능합니다. Your direct family members are not eligible for the Financial Reference. Two References are requested.
Should I include any federal and/or university grants I have received? : Yes, all grants received should be included.
Does “loan amount” refer to loans for the current academic year or to the cumulative amount of all loans received? : Only loans from the current academic year should be reported.
Does “cost of attendance” refer to costs for the current academic year or to the cumulative amount paid over all years? : Only costs from the current academic year should be submitted.
What does “financial source of tuition” include?
: Financial source of tuition should include all sources which may be used to pay tuition and other costs of attendance.
My spouse and I are both international students on F-1 visas. What should we submit for the financial income statements?
: You should submit financial income statements for the person responsible for paying tuition. If you are unable to submit income statements, please upload an explanation of your particular situation.

For Category C applicants, should I report the total amount received for the mission or just the net amount that is paid to the missionaries after deducting expenses and costs?
: You should report the actual amount of net income received after expense deductions.
What should be included in the Missionary Introduction required for Category C? : It should include current status, main activities, major accomplishments, and future plans for the mission.
Whose theological degree do I need to provide for Category D?
: Category D is for the children of pastors of churches that are not self-sufficient. If you are applying under this Category, you will need to provide a theological degree for either of your parents.
Category D: What does a ‘Non-self sufficient church’ mean exactly? 카테고리 D의 ‘미자립 교회’는 정확히 무슨 의미 인가요?
: The Church is unable to operate with just its offerings so the Pastor supplements the funds with his own earnings from other jobs. 자기 교회에서 걷히는 헌금만으로는 운영이 어려워 목회자 스스로 다른 일을 함으로 자금을 마련해서 운영되는 교회를 말합니다.
Can I still apply under Category D if my parents are a different denomination than Sa-Rang Community Church?
: Category D is open to children of pastors who are currently active in their ministry. All Christian denominations will be treated equally, except in the case of cults or non-mainstream sects.
What should I do if my file size is too big to upload?
: You need to delete the file that is too big and reload it in a file format that is 5MB or smaller in size.
Can I make multiple accounts using different email addresses? : All applicants should use one account to submit all necessary documentation. Using multiple accounts may lead to incomplete applications or a deduction in scores.
Do you send reminders for incomplete applications? : A courtesy reminder for incomplete applications will be sent out before the deadline.
How will I know if my application has been successfully submitted? : After completing each page of tabs, the final pages will have a Submit button. You will receive a confirmation email. You may also access your account online at any time to check on the current status of your application before the deadline.

Are there any documents that I need to send direct to KDSF?
: No, all supporting documentation should be uploaded via the online application process.
How are selected recipients notified of their award? : A full recipient list will be posted on the KDSF website in early July, and individual emails will be sent to recipients for notification.
Do I need to visit Sa-Rang Community Church to receive my award?
: There will be a scholarship ceremony in July at Sa-Rang Community Church, and we request that all recipients who are able to attend the ceremony to receive your check in person. If you are unable to attend the ceremony in person, your check will be mailed between August and September to the address on file. If you are an overseas theological student, we will coordinate with your recommending missionary to wire you the funds.
Is there anything I need to do after being selected?
: Selected recipients will need to access their application account to upload proof of registration for the next semester. You will also need to confirm that your address on file is your current mailing address.
Are unsuccessful applicants notified of the decision? : No, unsuccessful applicants are not notified separately and may check the full recipient list on the KDSF website.
